The Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center

Traumatic brain injuries (TBI) can have serious effects, which is why the VA has placed the utmost importance on helping veterans who suffer from them. There has been an entire division, in fact, called the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center (DVBIC) devoted to them since 1992. Veterans have access to top-of-the-line clinical care and research in addition to programs designed to educate them on living and coping with brain injuries.

Over the last 20 years, the DVBIC has grown from three Department of Defense facilities and three VA facilities to a headquarters based near Washington, D.C., 11 treatment centers and five VA facilities. Today, there are also two reintegration centers focused specifically on neurorehabilitation.

If you’re a veteran suffering from traumatic brain injuries, there are options for you whether you hope to return to active duty or life as a civilian. The DVBIC is constantly following and implementing new trends in treatment plus the most successful support and training methods that make life as easy as possible, including educational programs for you and your family members.

Research continues, including over 650 studies since 2007 that aim to improve protocols for brain injuries, continue developing conclusive markers in mental testing along with implementation of the most proven treatment methods.
