How to Request Priority Processing with the VA

Veterans’ benefits are incredibly important for many people, but they can take a long time to get approved. If you are a Veteran looking to request priority processing with the VA, you will need to fill out VA Form 20-10207 and send it over to the VA. Find the form here to get started, and reach out to a Veterans disability attorney to assist with any other questions you have.

Are You Qualified to Apply for Priority VA Processing?

To qualify for priority processing of Veterans benefits and for a faster decision on your claim, one of the following must be true. You are:

  • Experiencing extreme financial hardship (sudden loss of job or extreme life-changing events), or
  • At risk of becoming homeless or are homeless, or
  • Diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, or
  • Experiencing a disability resulting from a military operation, that likely will lead or has led to discharge (Very Seriously Injured or I11[VSI] or Seriously Injured or I11 [SI] status assigned by the Defense Department), or
  • Terminally ill (any condition, anticipated to end in death), or
  • Age 85 or older, or
  • A former prisoner of war, or
  • A recipient of the Medal of Honor or Purple Heart Award.

Based on what qualifications you identify with, check the correlating requirements for supporting documents. For evidence files, do not send original documents, only copies. If you already have evidence on file with the VA, you do not need to submit further documents. However, if you do not own or have access to the supporting documents listed, you can still submit your form.

Where to Send Your Form

The way you choose to send your priority processing form will also affect the time it takes for the VA to process your request. You can use the following to determine where to send the form:

  • Electronically: Use the QuickSubmit tool through AccessVA to upload evidence. QuickSubmit is a fast and effective alternative to faxing or mailing documents.
  • Online: Use the claim status tool to upload new evidence. You can add files from the Files tab, under “Additional Evidence.” The maximum file size is 25 MB.
  • By mail: Send evidence to the address where you mailed your claim.
  • In person: Bring evidence to a VA regional office. You can find a VA regional office near you online or by calling 1-800-827-1000.
  • By fax: Fax evidence to (844) 531-7818 if you’re in the U.S
