When applying for TDIU as a Veteran, there are things you should know regarding your capabilities to work, the process of applying, and how you may qualify. Being equipped and ready for the application is the first step in ensuring you get covered under TDIU. Our Veterans benefits lawyers are available to assist you with your application.
TDIU stands for Total Disability Individual Unemployability. This coverage is for Veterans who sustain service-related disabilities that cause them to be unable to work. This means you are unable to get or sustain full time employment that earns a wage above poverty level. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, for a person younger than 65, a poverty-level yearly wage is currently $12,316.
What TDIU does is give Veterans the ability to get paid at the 100% disability rate even when their service-related injuries may not be considered 100% disabling. For example, if a Veteran were to work in a warehouse job making deliveries but cannot work due to a back condition caused when on the job, they may be eligible for TDIU.
There are three different ways you may be eligible for TDIU.
With each of the scenarios, if your service-connected injury and/or disability is affecting your ability to work, you may qualify for TDIU. Reach out to us today to go over the details of your situation and determine if you qualify.
If you are currently employed and able to work, in most cases you will be ineligible for TDIU. TDIU’s goal is to help those Veterans who are unable to work due to their service-related disability.
