VA Aid and Attendance (AA) or Housebound benefits provide monthly payments added to the amount of a monthly VA pension for qualified Veterans and survivors. If you need help with daily activities or you’re housebound, you may qualify.

Can I Still File for Aid and Attendance Benefits and Housebound Allowance During the Pandemic?

Yes, you can! VA Aid and Attendance (AA) or Housebound benefits provide monthly payments added to the amount of a monthly VA pension for qualified Veterans and survivors if you need help with daily activities. If qualified, COVID-19 will not impact your ability to receive assistance. To learn more about how to contact us for benefits, go to Coronavirus FAQs.

VA Aid and Attendance Eligibility

If you get a VA pension and you meet at least one of the requirements listed below, you may be eligible if one of the following are true:

  • You need another person to help you perform daily activities like bathing, feeding and dressing.
  • You have to stay in bed – or spend a large portion of the day in bed – because of illness.
  • You are a patient in a nursing home due to the loss of mental or physical abilities related to a disability.
  • Your eyesight is limited (even with glasses or contact lenses you have only 5/200 or less in both eyes) or concentric contraction of the visual field to 5 degrees or less.

Housebound Benefits Eligibility

If you get a VA pension and you spend most of your time in your home because of a permanent disability (a disability that doesn’t go away), you may be eligible for this benefit.

Note: You cannot get Aid and Attendance benefits and Housebound benefits at the same time.

At Jan Dils, Attorneys at Law, we have been advocating for Veterans for 25 years. While we are glad the VA is modernizing their procedures and processes, it’s still very difficult to navigate the system. Today, 31% of claims are denied. Don’t be a statistic. Your first consultation is always free. Please contact the Jan Dils team at Fight4Vets.com or call 877.526.3455. Or you can simply fill out this form and we will contact you shortly.
